While visiting Palm Springs, CA. last weekend for a conference (Resolved), my family and I encountered severe temperatures well into the 100’s. My 13 month old son wanted to exercise his limited walking skills one afternoon, so as we made our way from the hotel lobby to our room, he was firmly gripping my fingers with his tiny, chubby hands to achieve some sense of balance. As we proceeded across the outdoor courtyard I found myself trying to find a position that would allow my shadow to fall on him as he walked in the direction toward our room, in an effort to provide him shelter from the scorching sun. It was then that the following Psalm popped into my head:
Psalm 121
A song of ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
I couldn’t help but to wonder if this is the same tenderness and concern that our heavenly Father shows toward us when walking with us through life. What a gracious and compassionate God we serve!

The reader should know that there are a few presuppositions with which I approach this blog:
1) I believe in the biblical gospel, which basically purports that all mankind is born under the curse of sin (due to the sin of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden). Therefore, man is separated from God and can have no relationship with God because He is perfectly holy, not even able to look upon sin. Unfortunately, God is also perfectly just and must not only separate Himself from sin, but must also punish it.
In order to reconcile man to Himself, God, the Father, sent God, the Son, down to earth to live as a man and take our sins upon Himself on the cross. While on the cross, God, the Son, bore the full weight of the wrath of God, the Father, against our sins in order that we who believe in Him might be set free from the curse of our sin. God, the Son, Jesus Christ, died as a propitiation for our sin in order to appease God, the Father's, holy and just character, redeem us from sin, and reconcile those who believe in this gospel to God, the Father.
2) I am primarily writing to those who already believe in this biblical gospel. In other words, this blog is not focused on evangelizing the lost, but edifying believers.
3) I believe that the Christian Bible is the very word of God. Therefore, it is completely inerrant, infallible, sufficient, and authoritative in the life of a believer.

Wonderful thoughts…..It IS the same love, only better. His love is ALWAYS better, but a mother’s love for her child comes very close…..and to think Kiah wasn’t even aware you were protecting him from the burning sun, and how often are we unaware of God’s great lengths He goes to in order to shelter us.
Amen, St. Louis Mom!!! That is a great point … I certainly take the Lord’s care and provision for granted all too often (to my shame), but He is so gracious and faithful to continue loving us anyway. What a great God! 🙂
