In reading through my Bible reading plan this morning, I came to Psalm 26 & 27. I was struck by a similar thread running through both Psalms, which captivated my own heart. David is praying to God and telling of his desire to be in His abiding presence, the place where His beauty & glory are revealed:
“O LORD, I love the habitation of your house and the place where your glory dwells.” – Psalm 26.8
“One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple… You have said, ‘Seek my face.’ My heart says to you, ‘Your face, LORD, do I seek.’ Hide not your face from me… I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” – Psalm 27.4, 8-9a, 13-14
After reading through these 2 Psalms, I was overwhelmed by the thought that David’s prayer can be my prayer too. Through Jesus Christ, I can rest in knowing that I will someday be ushered into the abiding presence of my God and my King. I too will be able to “dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.” What a hope we have in Jesus!
