“Free at last…”

“Freckles, the Turtle”

My turtle, Freckles, was a great pet! I purchased him almost 4 years ago from a street vendor in “China Town” in downtown Los Angeles, CA. At the time, his shell was no bigger than the size of a quarter. In this picture (above), taken just one week ago, his shell was the diameter of the span of my hand. It has been so neat to watch him grow!

The coolest thing about the growth of this turtle though is that it corresponds with my growth in the Lord. See, at the time I purchased this little guy from the street vendor, I was caught-up in a very worldly lifestyle and I had a hardened heart. But God, being rich in mercy, did not allow me to rest content there. In fact, I was at one of my lowest points in life when He led me to a godly older woman just a couple of months later. Shortly thereafter, God used her to introduce me to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! I instantly fell in love with Him! He rescued me from my horrible entanglement of sin, freed me from its bondage, aquited me of its condemnation, gave me a new hear, and granted me eternal life.

That was almost 4 years ago. Like Freckles, I feel like I have grown so much since then. But, like Freckles, I feel like I have so much growing left to do 🙂 .

Well, that brings me back to Freckle’s story. Last week, my husband and I realized that Freckles had finally outgrown his little 20 gallon tank. Living near a huge lake, it didn’t take long to come up with a solution to the problem. So, my husband I put Freckles into his little container, walked down to the water, and released him…. he is free at last!

About Elizabeth

I am a sinner, saved by grace striving to increase in the knowledge of my Savior and His precious Word each day. The reader should know that there are a few presuppositions with which I approach this blog: 1) I believe in the biblical gospel, which basically purports that all mankind is born under the curse of sin (due to the sin of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden). Therefore, man is separated from God and can have no relationship with God because He is perfectly holy, not even able to look upon sin. Unfortunately, God is also perfectly just and must not only separate Himself from sin, but must also punish it. In order to reconcile man to Himself, God, the Father, sent God, the Son, down to earth to live as a man and take our sins upon Himself on the cross. While on the cross, God, the Son, bore the full weight of the wrath of God, the Father, against our sins in order that we who believe in Him might be set free from the curse of our sin. God, the Son, Jesus Christ, died as a propitiation for our sin in order to appease God, the Father's, holy and just character, redeem us from sin, and reconcile those who believe in this gospel to God, the Father. 2) I am primarily writing to those who already believe in this biblical gospel. In other words, this blog is not focused on evangelizing the lost, but edifying believers. 3) I believe that the Christian Bible is the very word of God. Therefore, it is completely inerrant, infallible, sufficient, and authoritative in the life of a believer.

  1. St. Louis Mom says:

And just as Freckles is now free from his confining quarters, we are free from our confining sin as we swim in new freedom in Christ on the water wings of Jesus’ death and resurrection!
I know you miss Freckles though….will there be a Freckles II?
